A fast-growing Exposure Management startup is looking for a Backend Engineer – Data & AI to join a small, highly technical Data Platform team.
The role combines backend engineering, large-scale data processing, and production AI. You will build systems that turn fragmented and unstructured security data into accurate, usable intelligence consumed across the product.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and operate LLM-powered services for classification, extraction, enrichment, and data structuring
• Develop agentic workflows that process complex security telemetry and automate data analysis
• Improve the precision, response time, scalability, and cost efficiency of AI-based production systems
• Design and maintain high-volume data pipelines processing millions of records
• Handle complex challenges such as incremental ingestion, source correlation, schema drift, deduplication, and inconsistent data
• Build monitoring, validation, and observability mechanisms for both data and AI pipelines
• Integrate new APIs and external data sources into the platform
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to turn AI concepts into stable product capabilities
• Own code from architecture and development through testing, deployment, and production maintenance
• Contribute to the technical direction and continued evolution of the data platform
Required Experience
• 5+ years of professional experience in Backend Engineering, Data Engineering, or a similar role
• Proven experience developing and running LLM-based applications in production
• Strong SQL knowledge and experience working with large and complex datasets
• Experience building ETL, ELT, or data integration pipelines
• Strong experience working with APIs and external system integrations
• Familiarity with orchestration platforms such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or equivalent tools
• Solid CI/CD knowledge and experience independently shipping production code
• Strong understanding of system reliability, data quality, monitoring, and operational ownership
• Ability to work independently and solve ambiguous technical problems in a fast-moving environment
